From September 22 to 25, 2024, the 30th International Transplantation Congress was grandly held in Istanbul, Turkey, one of the three ancient capitals of the world with rich history and culture.

The conference was hosted by the International Transplantation Society (TTS). Founded in 1966, TTS is an international non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting organ transplantation worldwide. TTS now has more than 6,700 members in 105 countries around the world. The mission of TTS is to provide global leadership in human transplantation practice, develop clinical practice guidelines, provide advanced educational programs, and improve the level of ethical standards in clinical care and scientific research. TTS organizes an international transplantation conference every two years, with more than 5,000 delegates from around the world. At this conference, the renal transplant team of Zhongshan Hospital presented a total of 2 research results, including basic and translational research on stem cells and transplant immunity.

Dr. Liang Lifei introduced the research team’s research on Vista as a negative immunomodulatory protein of macrophages, and its role and regulatory mechanism in solid organ transplant rejection. This research provides a new strategy for cell therapy for the prevention and treatment of rejection in the future.

This research has been recognized by the international academic community and TTS. Its supervisors, Professor Yang Cheng and Dr. Liang Lifei, jointly won the Basic and Translational Science Mentor and Mentee Award from TTS. This is the 10th time that the renal transplant team of Zhongshan Hospital has won an award from an international transplant society, and it has given a voice to China’s organ transplantation on the international stage.

The magnificent Topkapi Palace tells the story of the heyday of the Ottoman Empire, and the beautiful Bosphorus Strait flows with the legend of Blue Türkiye.
