With the development of highly effective immunosuppressants, immunosuppression not only prevents organ rejection but also cannot overlook the opportunistic infections it may trigger; activation is more likely in organ transplant recipients, particularly kidney and bone marrow stem cell transplant recipients, and can lead to serious urinary system conditions such as BK virus-associated nephropathy, hemorrhagic cystitis, and bladder cancer. The BK virus has become a hidden threat following organ transplantation; however, there remains a lack of in-depth understanding and research regarding its harm, clinical screening for the BK virus, treatment and prevention of BK virus-related diseases, and peer communication remains insufficient. For BK virus-related diseases, no effective antiviral methods exist beyond reducing immunosuppression intensity. Reducing immunosuppression undoubtedly increases the risk of organ rejection once more. Even with treatment, BK virus-associated nephropathy leads to allograft renal failure in 16-40% of cases. Zhongshan Hospital affiliated to Fudan University is one of the earliest organ transplantation units in China. Currently, kidney, liver, heart, and lung transplantation have been comprehensively developed. The 2018 Forum on Organ Transplantation and BK Virus-Related Diseases and National Continuing Education Program “Organ Transplantation and BK Virus-Related Diseases Symposium 2018-04-10-018 (China)” will be held from November 21 to 23, 2018, at the Courtyard by Marriott Shanghai Xizang Tower, co-sponsored by Zhongshan Hospital affiliated to Fudan University and the Shanghai Pharmaceutical Industry Association, and co-organized by the Shanghai Key Laboratory of Organ Transplantation and Shanghai Public Health Clinical Center. The purpose of this forum is to exchange and discuss research progress and clinical practices related to infections and BK virus-related diseases post-organ transplantation, focusing on common viral infections after transplantation, BK virus infection in HIV carriers, BK virus-related diseases and prognosis analysis, BK virus epidemiology, and precise BK virus diagnosis; renowned experts and professors in organ transplantation, AIDS, and polyomavirus fields are invited to deliver special reports, cutting-edge updates, and case presentations. The conference offers diverse formats and rich content.
